This historic city of Lonavala was first discovered by the then Governor of Bombay, Sir Elphinstone in 1811. Lonavala is a hill station situated in the western ghats of the Sahyadri ranges and is around 2000 ft above sea level. Because of its proximity to Mumbai, it is an important tourist destination in the West of India. It is 62km from Pune which is another very important town. The resort is surrounded by lakes such as Valvan, Tungarli, Bushy and Shirota. Nearby forts are Rajmadri and Lodhagadh and archilogical caves Bhaja, Beseda and Karla. Specialities are chikkis (fudge)
