While beach vacations remain popular, trends show travelers booking trips in urban areas. New York, Portland, and Boston are a few cities vacationers enjoy to visit for the historical and cultural experiences.
The Marriott understands the demand for city-centric properties. In response, the brand created the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, a collection of timeshares in five major U.S. cities.
This summer, Wyndham Destinations will open its urban vacation ownership resort WorldMark-Waterfront Park in Portland. The resort will reside in the city’s historical Skidmore/Old Town District across the street from the Willamette River. The location sits in the center of vibrant dining and shopping, the Saturday Market, and a variety of outdoor events and festivals.
Hilton Grand Vacations will open its fifth property The Central at 5th by Hilton Club in New York City next year. Steps away from Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, the Theater District, and 5th Avenue shops, it’s a prime spot for an upscale, urban timeshare.
Urban Timeshare Market
The home-rental industry is steep competition for timeshares. Currently, ten leading home-rental companies exist.
A recent Wall-Street Journal Property Report uncovered a new breed of startups offering a hybrid accommodation option, aiming to merge the best of both home rentals and traditional hotel rooms. Companies lease a number of floors in commercial or residential buildings, stock them with homey furnishings, and rent them out for short-term stays.
However, the U.S. timeshare industry nabbed its eighth consecutive year of growth in 2017. The industry has been offering the home-away-from-home concept for decades. For example, The Manhattan Club provides its guests with luxury accommodations coupled with first class services, like a private lounge, fitness center, and business center. Timeshares also continue to be a cost-effective way to own a part of a vacation rental.
