We have been hearing this question a lot lately in customer service: “I have all these extra points, can I sell/rent them? What should I do so I don’t lose them?”
Those of you who are point owners know what it’s like to have some leftover and you’re just not quite sure what can be done with them to prevent losing them. The good news is that there are some options. One obvious choice is to reserve as high demand unit that you can and post it for rent on RedWeek. Keep in mind: rentals don’t have to be a full seven-night stay. We do see a lot of travelers looking for just a couple of nights, which can help offset your maintenance fees.
If you’re not interested in renting, then check with your management company to see if those points can be banked or if you can borrow points from a future year to take that much needed vacation.
Unused points can also make a fantastic gift! Book a surprise weekend trip for a loved one as a Christmas, birthday, or wedding gift. You could even donate a resort stay to a local charity for auction.
When it comes to unused points, think outside of the box. A one or two night stay some place may not be your thing, but it may make amazing memories for someone else.
Tip: Each point system is very different and points don’t always expire at the end of the calendar year. If you’re not sure of the deadlines to use your points or bank them, be sure to call Owner Services for your point system who can easily get you that information so you can make sure it’s on your to-do list every year.
