But did you know that Disney also has other resorts on the east coast that are not directly affiliated with the famous theme park?
If you love enjoying the hospitality of Disney, but want to also experience a vacation away from the crowds of Orlando, head to South Carolina. You’ll bump right into Disney on popular Hilton Head Island.
Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is part of the far-reaching Disney brand of timeshare resorts. This property is on a secluded 15-acre island in the Shelter Cove Harbour area.
The intentionally rustic theme of “South Carolina Lowcountry” is the style of this Disney resort, which is located on Hilton Head’s Broad Creek, technically a land locked tidal marsh.
A shuttle bus transports guests to the Disney Beach House in Palmetto Dunes, which is about a mile-and-a-half away.
Disney Hilton Head is, after all, a Disney resort, so there are numerous activities for children, including nature programs, campfires, magic shows, “Kids Night Out”, crabbing, art, and swimming pool & pool games.
There are ample opportunities for adults to enjoy a laid-back vacation with plenty of rest and relaxation, as well as activities such as biking, kayaking, and tennis.
HarbourFest, fun for the entire family and now in its19th season, runs every Tuesday night from June through August at Shelter Cove.
There is a special HarbourFest celebration on July 4. In addition, “Summertime at Shelter Cove” features five nights of family entertainment by Shannon Tanner, who plays two shows per night Monday – Friday.
South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island is internationally known for its world-class golf courses and coastal beauty.
Just across from Disney’s Hilton Head resort is Shelter Cove Harbour, featuring a marina, fine restaurants, and charming boutiques. A few hundred yards away is The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, home to a 350-seat pavilion, art galleries, and workshops.
Also nearby are the Coastal Discovery Museum and Harbour Town, which and has one of the world’s most photographed lighthouses.
Although Disney offers a multitude of fun activities at its Hilton Head resort, by far almost every guest’s favorite thing to do is meet Shadow.
This lovely Golden Retriever was adopted by the resort and has become the popular resort mascot. She has her own schedule for meet-and-greet sessions, so you won’t have to worry about missing seeing her.
Since the resort has a no-guest-pet policy, local kennels offer comfortable lodging for your own 4-legged family members.
