One of the many sculptures at the Ming Dynasty Tombs outside Beijing, submitted by S. Vaine, California.
The “Thirteen Imperial Tombs of the Ming Dynasty” were begun by Emperor Yongle in 1420. They were closed to “commoners” for the next 200 years. Today they are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
