Continuing our 5-part series on where to find the perfect pumpkin patch for your family’s fall timeshare rental vacation, Part 2 focuses on Vermont. Of course it’s a given that Vermont is a premier place to see colorful fall foliage in all of its glory. Add to that a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, or an apple orchard and you have the perfect recipe for fall family fun!
Most timeshare rentals in Vermont will put you within easy driving distance of these:
- Fat Mitchell’s Pumpkin Patch
In Burlington, here you’ll find pumpkins of all kinds – “warty, freaky, and good eatin'” – ready to be picked in the field. You’ll also find gourds of all shapes, sizes and colors. Or pick some colorful ears of Indian Corn just right for fall decorating. The sunflowers are growing big and pretty here, too. And be sure to enjoy a ride on the hay wagon, drawn by a pair of beautiful horses. - Shelburne Orchards
Located on the shores of gorgeous Lake Champlain, this 80-acre orchard lets you pick your own apples, and try fresh apple cider made right on the premises. There’s a hay bale maze made just child-size, and fun tractor-pulled hay rides. Throughout the fall you can also enjoy events such as the Pie Fest and the Harvest Festival. - The Great Vermont Corn Maze
Located in Danville, this is no ordinary corn maze. Billed “An Epic Journey of Adventure,” this maze takes an average of an hour and a half to complete (see photo). Celebrating 11 years of “cornfusion,” this 3rd generation dairy farm creates a new maze design each year, along with new surprises.Just for kids, the Barnyard Nature Center helps youngsters understand how farmlife, wildlife, and a cornfield interact. Good old fashioned fun includes 100 ft. of underground tunnels to explore, farm animals in the petting area, and the world’s first Barnyard Golf. The new Kid Village gives children the chance to be a store keeper, cook up supper in the log cabin, and even feed the horses in the stable.
They aren’t forgetting that October is for Haunting, either. The first two weekends in October is when Dead North is open. This year’s haunt will include a wagon ride, a ½ mile walk of terror through a haunted cornfield, and dark buildings with animatronics and special effects. It’s explained this way: “Not recommended for young children or persons with health concerns. We have had 8 year olds who loved DEAD NORTH and 25 year olds who were too scared to ever go through again. Everyone is different, so you can decide if extreme terror is your thing. Your screams only encourage us.”
