Giving timeshare back to where we bought it...fee $2000

Oct 03, 2012

We ask if we could give our deeded time share back to where we bought it as we are no longer are able to use it because of health reasons. Westgate Properties is where we bought it. They will take it back but the fee is $2,000. Is that the going rate to hand back the timeshare where you bought it?

Every place is different. If you are happy paying that fee then go ahead. Just make sure you're dealing with the property owner and not a scammer.

contact their attorney general and your in your state and ask for a quit claim deed right all the info on it and send it back to them certified, you should not have to pay for ANYTHINGyou are giving it back to them, then file a complainwith the BBB and the Federal Trade Commission

Westgate (nor any other timeshare developer or resort) does not have to ACCEPT a quit claim deed .... if they won't then the timeshare will still be in the owner's name.

Also, it's not like these people were bilked by some type of scam. They knowingly signed a contract to buy the timeshare but for whatever reason can't use it anymore.

Westgate has ultra nice resorts .... the owner of the aforementioned timeshare should be able to give it away in Redweek's Bargain Basement if their week is in bright red season.

Also, you're lucky that Westgate will even offer to take your week back for $2000 .... that will give them a couple years maintenance fees until they find a new owner.

The vast majority of developers and resorts do not take deed backs for ANY reason.

That is the cost to process the transfer & issue a new deed, that's what I paid recently to purchase the timeshare I paid cash for. If I know someone in the market for your timeshare I'll let you know.

I was fortunate in that I advertised the westgatge 2 bedroom on red Week, after six months I had an inquiry about this unit., I though at first, this is just another firm that wanted to charge me more money. It was a real SALE to an older couple that wanted to traveled. the transfer was set to go through at $250. Well, Westgatre decided that wanted to buy the property back for that amount. however, they waited until 40 days (they have 30 days to make that decisions). After 4 phone calls to corporate office, westgate let the sale go through for $250. by the way, westgate is advertised in the AAA travel books..

Did Westgate buy it from you or the older couple?
