timeshare donation
It's a LLC or a Trust set up to take timeshares then abandon them leaving other owners responsible for taking up the slack via higher maintenance fees. Also, many of these socalled LLC's never bother to transfer ownership and the orginal owner will be billed for past due maintenance fees and future maintenance fees. These socalled charities, LLCs and Trust scams are popping up everywhere.

Notice all the comments on their webpage started May 29, 2012 .... brand new scam. They also state that one can take a $5000 deduction on their income taxes when this is an outright lie. The only deduction one can take is 'fair market value' which is zero if you give it away.

Never heard of this scam, but new ones pop up everyday. Their copyright on their webpage states 2008-2012 which is more than likely a lie .... it's more likely a brand new scam copyrighted in 2012.

On another note, if an entity contacts you out of the blue with some type of proposition then it's a scam.

Has anyone had any dealings with Donate For A Cause? Are they legit or are they another SCAM artist? They claim you can deduct the timeshare as a gift . They apraise the timeshare and send you a paper which one can use for tax purposes. The IRS publication is 8283 section B for donations greater than $5,000. Will there be IRS issues with this and has anyone used this site (Donate For A Cause) before? Has anyone been able to use a site that will take your timeshare off your hands without much expense? Thanks. -----Ray

donp is exactly right. The IRS states fair market value for write-offs on your income taxes. If you give your timeshare to one of those charity donation scams then the fair market value would be zero and the IRS will come after you ..... many times it takes several years for them to contact you and you have to pay back the $5000 write-off plus penalties and interest.

Have you tried advertising it here on RedWeek's Bargain Bin that you'll sell it for $1 (or even Free)?
Also, Timeshare Users Group (aka TUG; tugbbs.com) has a Bargain Deals section where, for free, you can advertise that you want to give your timeshare away. The only expense is that you may have to offer to pay the closing costs (about $165 through legaltimesharetransfers.com). Just follow the instructions at the top of that page.
But, of course, watch out for these fraudsters who contact you claiming they can "cancel" your timeshare contract or mortgage for a large, upfront fee.

DFAC can not give you a usable appraisal for a donated timeshare. If you want a usable one, it has to be done by an IRS-licensed appraiser. That appraisal will cost you at least $300.
As for you question about DFAC's legitimacy, they are legit but they will charge you a hefty fee (at least $2500) to take your timeshare off your hands and they will only do that if they feel they can quickly turn around and sell or give away that timeshare.
Again, my recommendation would be to try to give it away yourself for far less expense.
