FBC is located directly off U.S. 1 in Key Largo (on the southbound side) at about mile marker 103.5. John Pennekamp State Park is about a mile further south on U.S. 1.
The FBC units are all multi-level townhouses (no elevators and not handicapped accessible). All units are VERY spacious; the place was originally built to be full ownership condos (i.e., not a timeshare facility). Most units are 2BR but there are a few 3BR units as well. Furnishings are somewhat dated, as the place is approaching 40 years old now. Unit carpeting was DESPERATELY in need of replacement (hopefully with tile instead of carpet) when I sold my week. Locking, single car garage directly beneath each unit.
Now under new management with a new Board of Directors. Previous manager was grossly overpaid and only marginally competent, at least in my personal observation and opinion. Some of the former Board of Directors were useless and inept too; some were clearly just pursuing their own individual "personal agendas". Those particular BOD members (including the former BOD President) really needed to be booted OUT. Belatedly, finally, they WERE voted out. I personally know several of the new BOD members and these new BOD members are all good, honest and decent people who (unlike some of the previous players) only want what is best for the resort. Things at FBC are clearly looking up now.
Back to the resort itself, there is a "cut" on the premises, a waterway connecting the Florida Bay and Ocean sides of the key. Boats routinely come and go through the "cut". FBC guests often fish and shrimp in the "cut", but I don't know how productive either activity is in December (my week was always around late February).
There is a code-activated keypad on the locked gate to the premises. If you'll be arriving after hours or at night, make very sure that you have obtained the numeric entry code BEFORE your arrival, or you won't even be able to get your car onto the property!
Depending on the building (A, B or C) and the specific unit within each building, you may or may not have a great view out to Florida Bay. From several A building units, all you'll see is U.S. 1 on the back side, and building B situated across the way when looking out from the front of the unit. Most B and all C building units have pretty nice views out at Florida Bay.
The above is all entirely accurate, but maybe others can provide some more current observations and information for you.
