how do i get to do a tour

Know this and fully understand this fact right up front, right now. It will be portrayed as a "90 minute presentation" but may well drag on for 3+ hours. The pressure and mind games from the team of deceitful sales weasels will be relentless --- they only make any money on SALES. You'll be told all sorts of false fairy tales about "great investment", "wonderful exchange opportunites", "don't you want to do what's best for your family?" "are you just wasting my time?"--- blah, blah, blah.I'm new to time share and I would love to purchase one;however i would like to take a tour first befor i buy one. Can someone tell me how to go about getting a tour.
If you have the time to burn and the firm resolve to say NO, you might find such a "tour" to be an entertaining and educational experience. If you really like the place, after you say NO and walk away from the "presentation", do your homework and study the resale market, where the price will inevitably be 95+% LESS than the numbers you heard from the hard sell, lying sales weasels.
Yes, you can get a tour at virtually any resort just by contacting the resort and asking. Just be aware of what you'll be in for if it's a resort with a hungry, on site sales team. If the facility is still under developer control, you may well be offered "free gifts" to take the "tour". Once you hear any mention of "free gifts", be on alert and know full well in advance that you are going to be pummeled by hungry, relentless, manipulative, high pressure sales weasels...

Timeshare street hawkers and developer salespeople love people like you .... they will get you in there and tell all kinds of lies about why you should buy developer over resale and they'll end up convincing you to buy from them ..... stay as far as you can from any developer sales presentation (tour).

If you go to one, don't be lured in by one of the resort's incentives to attend. Go on your own steam.
I went to 3 different resorts in the same area. I went up to the sales and asked if I could see a unit. The salespeople gladly helped. After the tour of a unit, I asked a few questions and got some helpful answers. I also specified at the start that I was not interested in buying at that time.
The salespeople still were helpful. They handed me their respective business cards and some folders with information. I was in and out at each one in about 15 minutes each.
The key though is to go in on your own free will and not be lured in by any of their incentives.
