Renters Beware!

Oct 17, 2009

This posting is to warn other timeshare owners looking to rent out their timeshare. Beware of David Beck of Boston Virginia. He looks for 'very last minute rentals', then stiff you with a bad check. By the time you find out it's bad, it's too late to do anything about it. When confronted, he makes a variety of excuses and promises to make good, but it's all lies and he never does. David Beck of Boston Va. is a First Class DEADBEAT...Beware!!

thanks. appreciate the tip on this guy. Asking for a bank draft is the best protection.

I see no problem in a personnel check that has all the persons information on it. From what I read the problem was a bad check and the fact this person gets a last minute deal and I guess is able to use it before check is cashed! Still not sure what this person gains but a free week unless he some how rents it out.

What I see as the problem is the owner gave out the unit before check clears which is a mistake by owner.I would rather have a check from a top name bank with all the information so I can verify it and get my money. Only then would I transfer the unit into the renters name. This is why many owners just wait to long maybe with over pricing then get rushed last couple weeks and then they open themselves up to problems.

Many owners don't deal with credit cards so some kind of check is used to close the deal. Many including myself will not join or use paypal so check is important.

This warning also was put on Tug today so this person probably changing name already!

Accepting Paypal isnt a bad way to go either.

I was the one who posted a warning on David Beck on TUG. I ran a check on him, and it all verified..he's a real person.

Paypal only works for the owner to get his money faster. Paypal in no way does anything for renter other than have him join Paypal and pay fee's.

If you then have a problem you would still need to contact your own credit card company for help!

As has been posted on here and other sites many times are the fact the only people that want Paypal are the owners. Paypal does not protect buyer or renter of any timeshare. Paypal only protects the purchase of Tangible items (Physical Items).

I have read all kinds of excuses and idea's how to get around this rule on timeshare forums and most times its from owners who want everyone to use PP so they can get their money now!

I have stated before that owners that like PP should offer other options too!

For myself if Paypal only option I would move on to another owner.

I can't really determine from your posting whether this deadbeat reached you in response to a RedWeek ad, but if so Mr. Beck must be a RedWeek member to have done so. If that's the case, I hope that you contact RedWeek directly (i.e., via seperate message to support@RedWeek.com --- don't merely rely upon moderators seeing and acting upon these forum postings alone) in order to help ensure that his RedWeek membership is promptly and permanently cancelled.

David Beck IS a Redweek memeber. He did receive his FREE GETAWAY via my ad on Redweek. I did contact Redweek, and they said they will 'note' this incident in David Beck's memeber account..

I'm very sorry to hear that you received such a feeble response from RedWeek. Larceny by check is a crime in every state (...a felony, in fact, if the dollar amount meets the applicable state threshholds). Such an overtly willful criminal act certainly deserves a more proactive response than merely "noting" it as an "incident" on an account...

This Is David Beck. As of today Mr Jennings was sent his payment via Western Union along with an email giveing my apology and an explainiation to my delay. I do not argue that his payment was severly late due to several family medical emergencies. If any owners have any questions please feel free to email me dlbx5@yahoo.com I have used redweek for several years and never had any problems or complaints. I will post out here for all to see Mr. Jennings I do apologize for any frustration I have caused you.
