I am a 71 year old woman, who lives on Social Security. Last April I bought a timeshare at Royal Villas in Mazatlan, Mexico. Here is what happened. I own a studio timeshare at Playa de Sol in Puerto Vallarta, as I prefer Mazatlan I was delighted when I was told by the Sales Manager they would buy my PDS for $15,500. Meanwhile, I would be buying a studio at Royal Villas for $9,500. I had to go back the next day to get the remaining paperwork. Then I find out Global Resort Services are selling PDS, not Royal Villas. I had to pay Global Resort Services up front to list my timeshare, so they have no incentive to sell it. I lowered the price to $12,500, of course it has not sold, as its worth no more than $5,000. Royal Villas put $5,000 on my credit card at the time of sale, but said everything would be settled in 60 days. Now the remaining $4,500 has gone to a collection agency. My income is so low I can only pay the minimum payment on the credit card and it will take about 100 months to pay it off. When I complained to the Sales Manager and asked to cancel the contract he accused me of coming to Mexico to buy a timeshare that I had no intention of paying for. What can I do to cancel the contract and get my money back? This was a scam and I was gullible. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
