written contract when renting a week??

Nov 28, 2008

This is my first time renting out one of my timeshares.

The person renting would like me to write up a contract.

Is this a common thing? Do I need to do this? What's the downside to writing out a contract?

thank you for any insight or information you can provide, -scott

No smart renter should EVER consider renting a timeshare without executing a rental agreement. Templates of sample rental agreements can be easily found on virtually any timeshare site, including this one. A rental agreement provides clear and specific identification of owner(s), unit location and description, dates and times of occupancy, damage responsibility, cancellation policy and payment terms. In truth, a renter would be unwise (...outright foolish, actually) to just send money to an unknown person based soley upon email exchanges without a formal, signed, contractual rental agreement which assures the renter, in writing and under signature, that he/she is dealing ONLY with the actual owner of the week being rented.

Look above for the section "I want to.." and then select "search forums". On the next screen, enter the words rental agreement in the top block and choose "all forums" in the lower block and you'll prompltly have 197 individual posts discussing rental agreements, some of which contain a sample rental agreement.

Hi Scott,

In the Resources area under this link http://www.redweek.com/resources/rental_process/private/ you will find a rental agreement.

Thanks, Marty
