Weeks to points conversion for a fee?
My timeshare in kissimme Fl called or at least someone called and asked me if I wanted to convert to points for 6000 bucks. I could get in on the new units they just developed next door. They said resorts were doing this and in 5 years there will be very few resorts with weeks making it very difficult to trade my week. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Also I will give my timeshare away if someone wants it. Owned it for 18 years and I dont want it anymore. Most likely will inherit my moms anyway.
Thanks Mike

Seeing you'd be lookign to get rid of your unit, any new owner would most likely have to "reconvert" to points anyway. As for fewer "weeks" resorts in the future. It may be true, but, IMHO, as long as resorts are charging thousands of dollars to convert, there will be plenty of owners NOT converting and keeping their TS in the weeks system. My timeshare in kissimme Fl called or at least someone called and asked me if I wanted to convert to points for 6000 bucks. I don't see any validity to the above statement. There will ALWAYS be weeks owners that care absolutely nothing about points. Also, II (Interval International) has NO point system.

Sure -- it's pure nonsense and BS. Remember rule number one about timeshare sales people --"if their lips are moving, they are probably lying".
Mike 1536 has already stated it quite well --- they are trying to sell you (again) something you own already. Why anyone would ever choose to buy all over again something which they ALREADY own is just entirely beyond my comprehension. Conversion to points might be a great revenue generator for the resort, but it is generally of no particular use or value or magic to an exisiting week owner. On the contrary, someone who owns a prime fixed week could very easily discover that, after converting to points, they can't even get back into the week which they USED to OWN with guaranteed annual access, without even making a reservation! That's just plain crazy, in my personal view and opinion.

Converting from Week to Points is STUPID.,.,. IMNSHO Here is my argument. Whatever week you own, it IS Yours (every year)... it keeps you 'involved' and in control of Exactly WHEN and Where you have accommodation. Points put you in Competition with every other Vacationer in the World and those numbers are increasing every year. We all learn from past experience.... some learn faster and better. For example, best choices are available a year (or longer) in advance of our intended vacation. IF you think you prefer to visit a 'new destination', then trade or exchange. I would prefer to rent out my unused units (save all fees) and then watch RedWeek/TUG2 adverts for something more appealing.
