Easy to trade into a Disney Resort????

Aug 06, 2008

I own a timeshare, and am thinking of upgrading the timeshare to have enough points to trade into a Disney timeshare. Is it difficult to trade into a Disney resort timeshare? (We currently do not own in Orlando). Here are my specific questions:

1. How difficult is it to trade into a Disney resort timeshare? 2. How much advance notice (3 months before check-in, 6 months, etc.) should we request the timeshare through Interval International? 3. Do we have to request a specific resort, or can we give a few resort options. 4. Do we have a good chance to get into a resort on a red date, or highly desireable date (Spring Break, Christmas) with enough request time (If we request a year in advance, for example)?

Any help would be appreciated!

=================== First I assume you are asking about the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts and not just resorts in the Disney area.

1. How difficult is it to trade into a Disney resort timeshare? That is entirely based on the TS you currently own. You said you want to upgrade to have more points. What Interval International TS timeshare do you own that uses points?

2. How much advance notice (3 months before check-in, 6 months, etc.) should we request the timeshare through Interval International? 3. Do we have to request a specific resort, or can we give a few resort options For ANY exchange, the earlier the request the better. The same goes with requesting multiple resorts

4. Do we have a good chance to get into a resort on a red date, or highly desirable date (Spring Break, Christmas) with enough request time (If we request a year in advance, for example)? I would say this would be the most difficult exchange. IMHO, people that own or reserve these weeks usually use them or rent them. Since DVC resorts are points based, it doesn’t make a lot of sense of someone to use a large amount of points to book a PRIME week just deposit that week with II for an exchange.

Also, many DVC owners will deposit their 2 BR unit separately to get two exchanges from II. Therefore you might not see many 2 BR units for exchange.

Check the TUG Forums (www.tugbbs.com/forumsI have read on TUG where people have no problems exchanging into DVC with certain TS (Marriott for one). There is also a thread dedicated to Disney TS. Many people advise that if you want to GO to a DVC resort frequently, then it would be best to purchase at a DVC resort.
