Mar 11, 2008

I had prespective renters want to use paypal, but I hadn't tried it and wasn't sure how it worked.

============= You each must set up a PayPal account. This can take a few days for banking info verification. Next via paypal.com you initiate a "Request Money" transaction. The other party will get an email from PayPal and would respond accordingly. The payment would go into your PayPal account, which you could then transfer into your individual bank account. Depending on the type of account you set up, you may or may not be charged a processing fee to receive payments.

According to the PayPal website, a person can pay by credit card, but in my latest rental transaction, PayPal was not allowing the person to pay by a credit card (I'm trying to track down the reason). Good Luck Mike

I for one will not deal again with paypal because after having a acct for less than 48 hours back in Dec 2003 and not being able to use it I canceled. I have spent last four years dealing with scam mailings and also e-mails from Paypal about my acct even though its closed and never used. Even Paypal agrees it was closed by me but they have no way to get me out of their system( This is what they say)

I would rather have the person send me a personal check with their address and phone number and also drivers license number written on it from a bank .

I wonder why this renter would want to use Paypal anyway because this cost you a fee to use it and them too!

My understanding is using Paypal is only good for getting you your money faster and does the renter no good at all!

Renting or buying a timeshare is not covered by the Paypal Protection Plan so they would still need to go back to their credit card company for problems with you.

The only things that the buyer has protection for are (Tangible items that can be shipped).

By the time you join Paypal this renter could have your contract that you fax to him and return it filled out and signed with your check for the timeshare.

If you were the one wanting to use Paypal then it would make sense because you want your money faster.

There was a couple great deals on Tugg's last minute site this last year and couple friends had interest but the owner would only except Paypal so they passed on the the deal because they also do not like Paypal. They were going to pay this owner $550 for the week and few days later the owner was down to $250 and rented to someone else willing to use Paypal I guess!

I have told others if you like Paypal that is fine but give other options to renters or keep your unit.

Please visit our payment comparison website for more information.

Payment using PayPal does not provide liability coverage on travel/intangible products such as timeshares. Please keep this in mind.

Thank you, Marty

========== Fortunately I haven't had the email problems that you've had with PayPal; maybe they've cleaned up their act. I agree that PayPal gives people a false sense of security. One question though, is if someone pays for a rental through PayPal using a credit card. Do they get the same "protection" from their credit card company as they would for other purchases? I have an account so I can offer this as an option, but for private transactions it's not as simple as people think. To top it off, my last renter tried to pay with a credit card, but for some reason the transaction was not accepted. She finally gave up with PayPal and put a check in the mail.
