opening day

I think the rating of a 3-star is accurate. We own other Marriott properties and this wasn't as well run. I hope this info. helps. The resort was supposed to open in DEC 06. Now I hear a rumor of late FEB 07. Anybody have better info?

I'm pretty sure the furniture wasn't the issue. I was there in early November and there was much more work that needed to be done. I'm surprised they will get it done by February.
I assume the 3-star rating is for Marriott hotel (Frenchman's Reef) next to the new timeshare resort (Frenchman's Cove). Great location, but has a lot of infrastructure needs. Hopefully the resort will be better managed!

When we were there in late December, they told us that the furniture was an issue but we heard China was the issue. The fun part of the resort looked like a lot of work needed to be done. If they do open in Feb., I don't know how much landscaping/pool areas will be done. Keep in mind Marriott offered $500 in credit, a buffet breakfast and a 1/2 day sail to those who stay in the hotel instead of the timeshare. The hotel is not up to Marriott's quality. There are musty smells, noisey a/c units, hot tubs that don't bubble, pealing paint. The common areas are nice. It also seem like the construction schedule is on "island time" meaning snails pace. I wish good luck to those who have a Feb. res. It took a lot of work to get compensated (several days after checkin). Also, note that the internet will cost you about $13 or $14 a day and there is no self serve laundry. Wait for the timeshare instead of roughing it in the hotel.

If you stay in the hotel at Frenchman's reef (next to the time share) There are many levels which can be reached via elevators and ramps. There are many stairs to the beach and to the boat dock. The hotel has a shuttle that probably can drop you close to those areas. I suggest calling the hotel for more info. As far as the time share units go, they were not open as of Jan. 1st. and are expected to open soon. The time shares area is a CONSTRUCTION SITE. Two large cranes were working constructing the new units. I would suspect timeshare residents will be using most of the amenities at the hotel. If you stay at the hotel instead of the timeshare and are an owner, make sure Marriott Vacation Club compensates you. The hotel rooms do not compare to what the timeshare offers. Good luck.

I just got off the phone to Marriott office in St Thomas. I asked for pictures of the construction at the area. I was advised that they couldn't send pictures of the area for about two more weeks as it was unsafe . They are sending me current pictures (not of construction) I was reassured many times by the contact person but I am not at all sure of what was truth and what was wishful thinking. I will keep you all up to date. I was also told that people holding past reservations were given 5 options as to what to do with their time since the place was not ready for occupancy.

The guest BR might accomodate one but I'm not familiar with the requirements. Ask me what you need and I'll ask the chief Engineer.
