Manhattan Club Lawsuit
We rented it on Red Week but I have also heard Craig's List is a good way to rent it also. Hope this helps.

When you bank with RCI, it's interesting to note that it requires giving up the week that you've been assigned and TMC has to issue a new week to RCI. I don't know what's behind this other than more control. There is some sort of agreement between RCI and TMC. I just resent having to get their blessing!

And I became disenchanted with SFX and went back to RCI! I have to admit though that my favorite companies are HSI (You have to buy in) and GPX (You have to own a unit in a timeshare they manage).
What I'd like to see is some legislation to benefit owners with the big timeshare exchange companies like RCI and II. Their exchange fees are way too high!

Trust that everyone has read the "Sun, Sand and Hard Sell" article in the Sunday Business Section of the New York Times. Why, pray tell did they have to go to Lake Tahoe to find problems with the sales tactics from Time Share Sellers. Doesn't anyone on this blog have a contact with the Times. The Manhattan Club story should have been in there as it is right in his home town. Next step? Who will compose a letter to the NYT Editor and the Editor of the Business Section? Needs to be done now. James 687

I agree! I just finished the article and could not believe we were not even mentioned. There was a Red Week person involved in the article and they obviously did not think to mention the Manhattan Club! I am thinking of writing the the journalist requesting that she do a follow up and include Manhattan Club. We do need to get our story out there!! Losey

i contacted amy fong, real estate columnist for craines ny business newspaper 2 years ago, and she did 2 manhattan club articles about a year apart. i'm not sure how much the articles influenced the situation, but we still seem to be in the same stinking, sinking boat. we all thought the media would be concerned with the injustices that we owners have endured. DEAR FELLOW OWNERS, THAT OBVIOUSLY IS NOT THE CASE. i also question the lack of direct support from the nys attorney general, eric schneiderman. it seems he's seeking his legal victory in the schneiderman vs eichner case simply to show his legal prowess, and not necessarily to right the wrongs owners have experienced and are continuing to experience, eg, the outrageous over-300% increase in our maintenance fees, among other injustices due to eichner ad company's greed.

Many RedWeek readers appear to be misinterpreting the New York Times story on Diamond Resorts, thinking that Manhattan Club owners are being slighted for not being included in the story. Not true at all. I am the RedWeek reporter who was quoted in the story, precisely because I have written several stories about the Tahoe Beach and Ski Club election battle with Diamond Resorts. I can assure you the reporter also knows about the Manhattan Club, because we discussed it. In any case, the NYTimes story is really about Diamond and issues its owners have had at several resorts. Shows all Manhattan Club owners (some of whom may also be Diamond owners) that they have much in common with other timeshare owners. In any case, I urge you to write the Times and provide commentary on the article.

Jeff,
I think it is an excellent idea to send comments to Gretchen Morgenson, the author of the NY Times article. Here is a link: http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/m/gretchen_morgenson/index.html
It is also worth noting that the article states that "The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau might write new rules to address industry practices". It seems worthwhile to contact this agency as well.

Just sent a note to Gretchen. Had to omit the http:// in order to paste the full address into my browser, but it appears to have worked. Suggested it might be worth exploring to see if the AG wants to be the one to move this issue forward....

I have been in contact with Dan Barry at the Times (he is a Pulitzer Prize winner and fellow St. Bonaventure journalism alum). He said the Times is aware of the Manhattan Club issue and a reporter has been watching the AG's investigation. Don't know if it is the same reporter who did this article.
