Does anyone know how far is 5th Avenue from the resort? And has anyone been to Walmart????

If you're going to do alot of cooking I'd visit the Walmart for groceries. If you're looking for just a few things for in-between meals I'd stick with the store at the resort unless you are already out and have time to work in a trip to the store before you head back to the resort. The $$ you would save at WM is greatly diminished by paying the taxi -it's not cheap ...not to mention your vacation time! The convience store has a great selection and even though we cooked in the villa a couple of nights and had breakfast/lunch/snacks/ and most of our beverages that we carried to the pool in a small soft pack cooler, we decided we'd purchase the bulk of our groceries from the resort next time and like I said, when we go to town we'll make sure to make our trip count and purchase the rest of what we want then. We never checked it out, but there's a Sam's Club there close, too. It's right on the main road.

5th Ave. is about a 10-15 minute drive. Most of our taxi drivers could easily do it in 10!! And I believe the cost was $10 each way without the tip.

My family & I own 14 weeks at the R. Caribbean & R.Mayan in the summer. I have been renting out my weeks & exchanging for the past 7 years. I was a little frightened about the strength of those waves since having small children. We kept going to paradise Island in Nuevo Vallarta where My husband & I could sip a drink & keep a eye on the kids without actually being next to them worrying about the undertone. Can anyone tell me if the R.Hacienda Beach is quiet or just as dangerous? I would like to go back before my lease is up in 2013/2017!! thanks!!! SANDRA

The RH beach is as calm as an ocean can get, I believe that has a lot to do with Cozumel just across the way. We have a 6 year old and she enjoyed the ocean, without having to worry about any strong currents!

The RH beach is very calm. We own at the RS and there is no comparison. The above poster is correct. You can see Cozumel on the horizon from the resort and I think the island protects the beach and limits the wave action to just ripples. Some of the beach areas have rocks, but by moving down the beach some, you can find good, calm swimming areas.

Hello everyone... I come on this site everyday looking for new information on the Haciendas. Does anyone have any new gossip that would like to share?????? I bought here and want to learn more when I come next May. I know it's a while to go, that just goes to show everyone how excited I am and can't wait :o)

aliciag23: We will be at our Royal Sands villa 7/7 - 7/21 and we plan to go to the Haciendas for a visit. We usually have a breakfast with our salesperson once a year to catch up on any news. If I learn anything new, I will certainly post upon my return. We're very excited about staying at the Sands, but probably equally excited to see the growth at the Haciendas! We stayed in our RH villa in November 2006 and will be returning again November 2007. I know exactly what you mean about being excited about returning to the Royals. We're getting close to 10 years now, and the eager anticipation does not get any less over time!

Ditto comments from Dee. We will be at the RH for 2 weeks in October. We plan to take our laptop with us and use the wireless internet to provide daily (?) updates. In the most recent news from Haciendas, they said "The shuttle service from the resort to Playa del Carmen has proved so popular that Thomas Moore Travel has increased the number of departures, making it easier to visit Playa for shopping and dining. Transport is now available every two hours every day except Saturday. The cost is $7 US p/p round trip, $4 US p/p one way. There is no return service for the last shuttle of the day. " This will certainly make it easier and less expensive to go downtown for dinner or shopping. We watch the webcams daily and will be anxious to see the differences once Phase II opens.

Hi jiml122: I was also glad to hear of the expanded shuttle hours from RH to P del C (from the Royal Resorts website: e-news from paradise!). We took the shuttle last November and it worked out very well. I think the expanded hours will add more flexibility which will be a good thing. My daughter will also be glad to hear of the karoake (sp?) at LaRotonda. It's an activity she enjoys at the Cancun resorts. We also brought out laptop to the RH last November. With two teens, they were able to IM their friends back in the states from our balcony with the free wireless internet. Quite the necessity for the 16 year olds!

Aliciag23 - Have you gotten your gifts from your salesperson yet?

Ric sent us some neat bathrobes a while back, and yesterday a set of four Margarita glasses arrived with the Royal Resorts Logo etched in them. There is also a music CD and some fun fiesta recipes to get us thinking about our home away from home! I can hardly wait to go next year! It will be the first time we'll stay longer than a week... one at RH and the other at RC!

This is the only gossip I have...

What week(s) did you buy? We'll be at RH week 16 - phase 2!

I know you can bank your lock off with Interval International but as of right now the Hacienda's do not exchange well. I was so surprised about this since Interval wrote a nice article welcoming the Royal Hacienda's saying how nice of a resort it will be and of course it's a royal. I called Interval about the lack of any good exchanges and they thought maybe at this point it's because the resort is under construction and in time the exchange will be greater. I thought it would be better then my week 8 at Shawnne Mountains which is falling apart and the Hacienda's is a five star right on the beach. I even put my week 48 at the Hacienda's through the new Red week exchange program to see how many points it would receive and it was much lower than my Shawnee resort. I put the whole villa in not just the lock off to see how high the point value would be. I did also put in the Royal Carribbean (same dates) to see what there points would be with the red week exchange program and they were also much higher so it must be the construction at the Haciendas that's pulling it down, I hope :0) Kath

Our villa is week 16 ground floor in the B Building. :-)

You should get your package any time. We got the first package about a month after we returned home, then another one that just came. I might have to make a visit to The Royals between now and then. I don't know if I can wait ten more months. Last year we went to Cancun week 43 (end of October) and had a marvelous time. We were able to use bonus weeks from our Hawaii timeshares and get instant exchanges to The Royal Islander. It was fabulous!

I hope your package comes soon!

shannon,

That is so funny that you said that you was at the Islander last October. So was I!!!!!! We stood on the beach front, can't remember the room number. I love it that time, we did have couple of rain days. We came back in May and stood at the Mayan. We loved that week (weather wise) and that is when we bought at the haciendas week 21. My husband is going back in Oct with all his guy friends, don't know which one they're staying at. One of his friends is making an echange. I do know that my Husband will go and check out the Haciendas that time. I can not wait till next May!!!!! So I do know what your going through....:o)

Too funny! Yep, I need my Cancun fix every six months. We planned a Disney Vacation to Orange Lake Country Club this fall, which I'm looking forward to - but not like I look forward to our time at The Royals! Our kids have a fall break the last week of October (Royal week 42) for school, which makes it a great time to travel.

:-) Have a great weekend!

Has anyone experienced renting a car for their stay in Playa del Carmen? We are wondering if we have 2 couples and rent a car, would we save $ considering shuttle from airport down, trips into town for dinner, etc. We will be at the Haciendas for weeks 42 and 43

We rented a car when we stayed at another resort in Playa, and it was worth it. We didn't rent it through Thomas Moore, however, as other car rental agencies were cheaper (I believe we used Thrifty, but it was a few years ago). We picked our car up at the airport upon arrival, and returned it when we left. It was nothing fancy - a Nissan Sentra type vehicle, and we paid a little over $100 for the week.

Shannon, I think that it's better to rent a car. What you pay for the week, it's almost what you pay with Thomas Moore round trip. At least you have the car to travel with. I'm going to check out to see how much they would want now. Alicia

Hello everyone,

We are new owners at RH and our first stay will be the week of May 24 to 31, 2008. However, we will not be able to make it due to kids exams etc. Since we are new at this, can we exchange this week for another week (in June 2008)with another owner at RH?

Thanks, shoram2
