Corporate Timeshare Network - rental or sales

Aug 12, 2019

Just got off the phone with Jeremy from Events Corporate Logistics. He's going to put me in the Coca Cola convention pool - my 6 getaway weeks are guaranteed! to sell. All I have to do is activate those weeks. Seriously, I'm going to make $1100 profit on each week - and it's all non-taxable! There is zero risk! I'll get paid in 60 - 90 days! All for the low-low price of $399 per week to activate. But it's guaranteed! No risk! They have requests for 1700 weeks of timeshare property rents. People don't show up - I still get paid! Someone backs out - the company will just send someone in their place!

Wow - just wow. I almost have no words to describe my reaction to this scam. I understand why people are taken in - they are very conniving - I mean - convincing. They are just doing me this great favor - after they look up my account and see that I haven't activated any of my weeks - they want to turn these unused weeks into cash money for me.

Here is my response - if the weeks are "guaranteed" to be used - YOU pay the activation fee and then just reduce what you pay me for the week. Easy money, right? Strangely, they don't take me up on that.

Just like when they say something like "We have buyers on the line for your unit who are ready to pay you $20,000!" then you say, "Great,I'll sell it to you for $1000 then you can turn around and sell it to them for $20,000. That's a $19,000 profit for you rather than me paying you $899 to broker a deal."

We are purchasers and haven't heard anything from them in 3 years. Just wondering why no one has pursued a class action esp since apparently the company has used multiple names?

Looks like the last comment on this site was May 2019. It is now August 2024... no comments since then?? Almost makes me wonder if this site is still active or just a shell of a site. Last site I wanted to contribute to about my experince with these fly-by-night Corp Timeshare Network, which they are now going by the term Get-Away-Weeks, made me sign up to register within their organization... I guess because it was a third party website in the business of taking complaints and disseminating them to the public. This is fine, but then as part of the questionaire to sign up, they wanted me to 'associate' or 'personalize' my postings with an 'interest' (???) This was peculiar, and not something I felt I should pursue for security reasons. So I decided not to sign up. Now here I am on RedWeek with an opportunity, but this may be a waste of time based on the lack of postings in the last six years(?) Or it simply means the skeptical industry went away for awhile. The last time I tried posting a complaint, I recall the same issue, although the last posting was within only 3 years. I will provide my experiences here in the hopes it saves someone some money, and helps 'turn' this scam back into dormancy. About a year and a half ago I started getting calls from 3 separate entities trying to get my approval to release my "get-away-weeks" for use by a wave of renters creating a high demand for my timeshare due to popular events near my timeshare. The fire calls would all by guarantee me the profit check within 180 days. That one I fell for, and haven't received a call from them, or a dime of the $1,197 check I sent them to rent out 3 get-away-weeks. I researched the second company that called me about selling my get-away-weeks, and found that the Better Business Bureau does not endorse them and advises against doing any business with them. When I told the rep after he called back, he has to hang up to research answer for me. When he called back, his resposne was that his employer does not subscribe to BBB. I think the taxpayers pay BBB, not subscribers within the industry. I've had multiple conversations with these folks, as well as other legitimate timeshare rental companies that only deal with the week (or 2 or 3 or whatever) the timeshare owner actually owns. I've sort of made it a goal to convince myself these 'extra' weeks are a hoax, and have my answer. This last call came Aug 1, 2024 and goes as far as to tell me they 'guarantee' it will be rented. Perhaps its a play on words, so I called "Stephanie" at Vacation Rental Spots (who called me, by the way) on it, and asked why they need any money upfront from the timeshare owner if its guaranteed. "Would you not get your money anyway if its guaranteed? This seems to me to be a no-brainer and incredible business model. No risk by the timeshare owner, and no change in risk to the get-away-week broker." It's interresting when I try to explain this logic the 'broker' on the other end always talks over me and will not listen. Here's the answer I'm gathering: They need to take the money upfront so they can run and hide, and never return it. And one last question I have is, where are the testimonials that timeshare owners have in favor of get-away-week rentals and benefits to the timeshare owner? I have feeling that will be a neverending search.

Their pitch has not really changed. Only the business name got flip-flopped a few dozen times. I am still receiving those crazy dumb-'ss phone calls. There is a way to get rid of them:

1. Kindly ask for the caller's name. 2. Ask for the name of their business. If you don't understand it (bcs they're trying to hide it), ask them again, and again. Until you have All the details. .... and where they are based out of. 3. Stay friendly. Stay determined. Stay in control of the conversation. You call the shots, not them !! You ask all the questions. Do not answer any of theirs. 4. When you have all the ID information, and you have possibly managed to google it, while you have the caller on the phone, calmly tell them that you recorded the conversation, and to never, ever, ever call you again, or they personally, and not only their business, will have a tough law-suit on their hands. 5. RCI has a legal representation, which is continuously chasing these rogue businesses into court, and makes them pay!! You can call RCI afterwards and ask for the legal liaison contact information in these matters, and then provide the paralegals or attorneys with all the information you gathered on the rogue business.

The thugs will then leave you alone for some time, perhaps for a year, or for two, or for five years. But they will certainly come back to take you for a ride on the scam of a life time. You can choose not to believe it, .... or you can pay for a scam.

Be kind. Be tough. Smile! And enjoy your vacations. You deserve them!

Best regards, SurfM

Recording a telephone conversation without the knowledge and consent of the other party is actually against the law in many states, so I would caution against casually doing so without having some knowledge of the applicable law in the state(s) at issue. Someone could find themselves on the wrong end of a legal action for surreptitiously recording phone conversations in a state where it is illegal to do so without the knowledge and consent of the other party.

I also harbor serious doubts about your assertion that RCI legal representatives are "continually chasing these rogue businesses into court". On what factual basis would you make that statement? If it was true, RCI would be blowing their own horn about it, loudly and often; I have never seen or heard of any such "chest thumping" or any related RCI claims or press releases in my several decades of timeshare involvement. RCI itself was the target of a class action lawsuit some years ago (regarding inappropriate and unfair handling of "exchange deposits"), but that lawsuit was settled after a few years with results of relatively little significance.

Apart from those observations, you have offered some good tactical advice regarding dealing with phone scammers, SurfM!

Thank you for the flattery.

I did actually talk to the RCI lawyers. They called me back after I submitted some complaints. If one party consents to recording a phone conversation, and that's I, me and myself, that's plenty enough, and totally legal in Georgia, regardless what the other states are doing. I worked for a big national phone company and caught internal fraudsters, who were ripping off our customers.

I am not shy or hesitant in any way, shape or form, especially when scammers are clearly overstepping the line. Folks: Be calm, polite, and 200% confident! And then issue the law suit threat just as calmly to the scam callers. They will s.h.i.t. on themselves! And then report to RCI.

Just my five cents.

Put scammers out of business!

Check out this page, effectively a "Black List" of listed, known, non-affiliated organizations scamming Timeshare Owners:

https://www.dailymanagementresorts.com/news.aspx

Scammers will ALWAYS approach you by phone first and only. They will never send you a piece of hard copy mail. Never Ever !

If you are in any doubt about any business legitimacy in organizations allegedly doing legitimate business with RCI or Vacation Village affiliates, I would always recommend to call your known, legitimate RCI or Vacation Village Liaison.

You can post a page of scammers if you wish. It wouldn't hurt. But just remember, when these scammers get caught or outed, they just change their name and resume under a new name.

It doesn't matter what the company's name is, if a company contacts you claiming it can sell, rent out, or "cancel" your timeshare and then asks for an upfront fee, it is a scam.
