ThanksI responded 2 weeks ago about the views. I was mistaken about which villa was which. I believe Villa 18 is at the end of the street with only one neighbor to the west and at the same elevation as 18. When we purchased 16, we almost chose 18 instead. We walked the sites prior to construction and decided that the closeness of the mountain to the east of 18 would limit the view from 18. 16 is further from the mountain and, therefore has a slightly wider view. Our second year in 16 surprised us with a giant "Hacienda" being built right in front of Villa 18 which made us very glad we did not choose it. The hacienda was planned the whole time, but somehow during negotiations with the developer, the Hacienda purchaser (a friend of the developer?) got them to build it on a huge platform raising it 20 or 30 feet higher than the little diarama model depicts it in the room across from the sales office. The Hacienda is beautiful, but I prefer the ocean view. Villa 18 pool and deck privacy is probably one of the best in the community.

Eric, cannot help with scuba or golf info. The snorkeling boat "Pez Gato" has mediocre snorkeling but the staff is friendly and the food is good. The boat ride is fun. The sunset cruise is worthwhile and you can usually get a free one by doing a timeshare presentation. By the way: We schedule a timeshare presentation before we leave the airport at San Jose Del Cabo. As compensation we usually get: Free shuttle to and from Montecristo (stop at Costco on your way to MC the driver will wait for you while you shop for the week). Sunset cruise tickets, snorkeling tickets, jet ski ride 1/2 price. and $50 or $100 gift certificate for a restaraunt in town.
We tip the taxi at least $15, (I cant remember) We tip the maid $5/day We tip the shuttle $1/trip to and from the Villa.
We will be there the first 2 weeks in Sept. More updates after that. Steve
I couldn't stand the thought of sitting thru another timeshare presentation. We are debating renting a van for our trip; but my wife is concerned about driving on Mexican roads.
Eric, I do not know where in Mexico you are driving to or where in USA you are driving from. I have driven from AZ to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) many times without incident. 95% great roads. 5% construction (dirt detours).

We are just driving to and from the Cabo airport and then doing small trips throughout the week. Any tips for car rental companies or issues we should be aware of in renting?

I understand now. My cousin goes to Cabo to utilize their timeshares several times per year. They have enough money to do whatever they choose. They would NEVER drive in Cabo. Secondly, we have never wished we had a car on the 3 visits we have made. The valet at the resort and the shuttle bus fleet provides adequate mobility without the liability. Thirdly: Any non-injury traffic accident can land you in jail until you pay, regardless of fault. Don't even think about the event of someone (local) getting injured and what that would mean.
At worst, Taxi from resort to town is about $12 each way. Timeshare presentations are a breeze when you own at Montecristo Estates, since nothing else compares to MC. (and the salespeople realize that). Do check out the underground spa (elevator down from the gym). No cost and worth every penny. quiet music, no crouds, sauna, ice pool, jacuzzi and private showers.

Steve Thanks Steve. We are going to our villa 18 for the ist time in November. CAn you recommena nearby golf course and a place for scuba diving?
I think I can help with the golf. In July we played Cabo CC, Palmilla and Cabo Del Sol. The closest course to the Montecristo is the CC but I wouldn't really recommend it. The whole place has weird sewage smell and it is just not that great. Cabo Del Sol is a little farther away but very nice. A little pricey though. I liked Palmilla the best personally but it is about 30 minutes away near San Jose Del Cabo. It was in amazing shape.
If you can stand it, we sat through one of those time share presentations and were able to get two free rounds at Palmilla. Hope this helps a little.
Can' t wait for the "proposed/imaginary" golf courses!
