Medical emergency - Can my relative transfer her reservation to a family member

Jul 05, 2013

Hi I am hoping for some help here... We were set to visit Silver Lake Silver Points this upcoming Tuesday in Orlando. The reservation is under my Mother in law, who owns a RCI timeshare in Hilton Head. So this is a transfer/exchange type thing. Yesterday, my father in law had a heart attack, and he is going to be ok... it was mild. ( whew) but they are unable to travel from The Carolinas to Orlando, naturally. My husband and I have all ready purchased 1000 dollars in plane tickets to join them at this resort, and she told us today that they are not going and no... she will not/cannot transfer the reservation over to my husband and I. Now we are out of a place to stay when we arrive Tuesday. Now, I have talked to some people, and they are telling me she can transfer it to us for 60 dollars. The reservation has been made since January. Ironically, I rented a timeshare for the following week from someone right here on Redweek... so even though she is telling me she can't let us use the timeshare... leaving us out of a vacation... I think she is uninformed. So my question is.... there was a medical emergency and the party that owns the points can not travel to the resort.... can the reservation be TRANSFERED to a family member who is NOT an owner. If so, can it be done in 4 days.....Thank you.

I'm not sure about the process but your mother-in-law can call RCI to see about purchasing a guest certificate ... you can Google for RCI contact info .... this should be an easy fix
