It’s March – and that not only means St. Patrick’s Day and, this year, Easter, but it’s also the month of Spring Break. Whether you’re a student or not, you do deserve a break, and there’s no better place to take a well-deserved timeshare getaway than Hawaii’s island of Kuau’i.
No island knows romance like the Garden Isle. Readers of Travel + Leisure recently voted Kaua‘i as the most romantic island in the U.S. As stated in the magazine, readers chose Kaua‘i for its “dramatic scenery – primeval rainforest and photo-ready waterfalls.” The publication also noted that Kaua‘i “has enough film credits to rival those of an A-list actor, including The Descendants, Avatar, and the steamy noir Body Heat.”
The 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s most famous concert, Aloha From Hawai‘i, was celebrated on Kaua‘i with a wonderful event and fundraiser on January 18, called “Kaua‘i Loves Elvis!”
In tribute to Kaua‘i’s enduring ties to the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” the event at the Kauai Marriott Resort On Kalapaki Beach featured a performance by Elvis Presley tribute artist Tim Welch.
The figures are in and Kaua‘i’s visitor industry enjoyed an outstanding year in 2012. Visitor arrivals to Kaua‘i increased by 7.3% to 1,084,868 visitors – one of our best years in recent memory. The island’s appeal was demonstrated by the fact that more than half of those visitors – 587,023 – stayed only on Kaua‘i, an increase of 9.6%.
International visitor arrivals to Kaua‘i, grew by 10.6% to 107,407 for the year. Visitor expenditures on Kaua‘i jumped significantly by 20.1% – the best year-over-year increase of all the islands – to $1.4 billion.
Increased travel demand for Kaua‘i generated more flights, as seen in the 13.5% growth in air seats for 2012. Total air seats to Kaua‘i is expected to increase in 2013, especially with Alaska Airlines launching nonstop service to L¯ıhu‘e from San Diego on June 7, 2013.
